Prevention- The flu vaccine

Much of the illness and death caused by the influenza virus can be prevented by the annual influenza vaccination. Many individuals still do not have the knowledge or understand the importance or how to get the vaccine and also because at times, stocks can run out of the vaccine. There have been many miss-understandings of the vaccine in the public eye. The vaccine is given each year by an injection. People who are at high risk of getting the influenza virus are strongly recommended to get annual vaccination. These groups of people include:

· Aged over 65

· Chronic respiratory disease

· Chronic heart disease

· Chronic kidney disease

· Chronic liver disease

· Diabetes

· Chronic neurological disease

· Immunosuppression illness

High risk groups also include those working in public sector areas or those in contact with a number of different groups of people, for example : health care workers, those living in close proximity to others, gym environments, air conditioned areas or working.

The vaccine needs to be given each year, this is due to the clever fact that the virus changes continually by mutating. Therefore, each year, the vaccine changes according to the most up to date virus that is present. Also, once a person receives the vaccine, the effectiveness of the vaccine, reduces over time in an individual.

The vaccine should be taken around September of each year and it takes approximately 2 weeks for the beneficially effects of the vaccine to develop.

Galen Health - Your Health in Your Hands

Galen Health firmly established itself at number nine, Harley Street with the vision of pioneering 'Preventative Healthcare' in the UK.  Both Galen Health and our members believe that 'Prevention is better than cure' and by fully understanding the current health of our members, medical/family history, risk factors, diet and exercise levels all via a comprehensive health screen, we can begin to proactively address all/any health issues that our members have and prevent any unnecessary health complaints causing any unwanted health suprises in the future.

Health Screens form the back bone to our business as they provide a window into someones immediate and future health, but this information is only valuable when you proactively seek to respond to the results.  If you found out your home had minor subsidance, you wouldnt then do nothing and wait for it to have major subsidance or collapse all together.  This is the difference between Galen Health and other 'Health Screen' providers.  We offer continued care to our members in  the form of a free annual health screen and free unlimited access to our doctors and nurses either in the clinic, on the phone or at home.  We work with our members to postively alter their health and lifestyle to not only prevent illness but in some cases reverse it.

Each day, more and more people are understanding the benefits to preventative healthcare and as such everyday our membership increases.  Just think, if you knew your health own inside out, you would not worry about your health unnecessarily, you would not spend out money on your health unnecessarily, you would not waste time on your health unnecessarily.  At Galen health our members only spend money on what they actually need, they have no obligation to use our care, infact some even choose to use the NHS based on their results, because with a clear understanding they have their health in their hands and can therefore make all the right choices that suit themselves best.
